Bosc pears simmered in a red wine syrup makes for a decadent and unique gourmet dessert.

Ingredients

4-6 medium sizes Bosc pears
-
2 cups sugar
-
2 cups favorite red wine (good with merlot, cabernet sauvignon or red blend)

Vanilla extract
-
Cloves

Serve with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese
Directions
Place all ingredients, except pears, in saucepan or iron skillet.
Bring to a simmer so the sugar will dissolve.
Light Pit Barrel® according to instructions.
Peel the pears.
Slice pears and place in in the liquid mix in an oven safe dish. Place this dish in your Pit Barrel® and cook for 20 min (turn or stir every 5 min).
Remove the pears from Pit Barrel® and place on a plate.
Heat the remaining liquid in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Simmer for a few minutes until the liquid thickens up into a syrup.
Take off heat when reached the desired syrup consistency and brush the pear slices with the syrup. Serve with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese.
