I decided to start competing in BBQ comps this year. I knew I was going to need a good barrel to get the job done so I chose the PBX. I have two as my rigs and in my first comp I was able to get 12th out of a field of 44 teams.

I got the 22.5” PBX smoker at academy for 199$ when they came out. I never would have thought it would produce such amazing results in food. My only regret is not buying 2 or 3 of them at that price. I use this cooker the most and I have 7 different style of grills to offset smokers.

This is an ideal product for someone who wants to start smoking meat for the first time or someone who has experience but wants simplicity and ease of use.

Remembering my Dad and on a whim this December, I looked into the world of smokers to see what was available. I found a youtube review from a guy with a 500 gallon offset smoker who recommended the pit barrel cooker to new people; based on ease of use, affordability and quality of food it could produce. I then focused on reviews specifically for this product. I was happy with the general consensus. I checked out the options on the website for a few days and pulled the trigger on the 22. 5 PBX and the prime package. I didn't want to want for anything. I'm glad I did. It was shipped out the same day and was here in maybe 2 or 3 days.
It's a big box. Everything was neatly packed inside. All the extras are high quality and well made. The company takes pride in their products and brands their accessories.
That first weekend with it, I smoked a pork shoulder for pulled pork and it came out perfect. I'm in Ocala, FL so I don't even bother moving the bottom vent from the down position. I just let the cooker do it's thing. I hung the meat from the hooks on one of the bars. I checked it after the first 2 hours to see what was happening and then maybe…
